My first short film, which would eventually evolve into the feature film, The Intruder, was a collaboration between me and my friend, Zeb Lunz. We were 18 years old, and we had no clue what we were doing. All we knew was we had a story that excited us, and we loved movies. The first scene we shot in our filmmaking careers was an ambitious chase scene that took us all night to shoot. We filmed the majority of this short film in one day at my sister's apartment at Louisiana Tech. The rest was pieced together over some months at various locations around Friendswood, TX.
The film may not be perfect, but this experience was what made me fall in love with making movies. Years later, having always wanted a second crack at what I felt could have been a very interesting story, I revisited this concept and turned it into my first feature film. I learned so much from the mistakes I made on this short, and it will always hold a special place in my heart as the film that started this journey.

All At Once was a short film that happened very quickly, relative to most other projects I've worked on. I wrote the script in a few weeks, and shortly thereafter, we spent three days filming it. The idea was to do something much smaller than the very ambitious The Intruder short film I had recently finished editing. One of the things I learned from this film was, that's not really something I care to do again. All At Once was a low risk, low reward experience that didn't challenge me in the ways I needed at the time. That said, it did represent several firsts and learning experiences for me.
At the end of the day, I'll remember All At Once as an important part of my filmmaking journey. I think there's an interesting concept there, and with some reimagining, I could definitely see myself revisiting that concept. A year after finishing this film, with all that I learned since then, I jumped head first into finally bringing to life a short film script I never thought I'd be able to do: The Grand Gesture.
